Salford Quays and MediaCityUK represent one of the most comprehensively redeveloped waterfront areas in the UK — but for drivers who break down here, the unique road layout and access restrictions create specific recovery challenges.
Salford Quays and MediaCityUK are home to thousands of daily workers, BBC and ITV staff, hotel guests, and residents in one of Manchester's most intensively developed waterfront districts. The road network here is unlike anywhere else in Greater Manchester — wide boulevards, service roads, private estate roads, gated car parks, dock-edge tracks, and pedestrianised links between buildings. Our Salford depot covers this entire zone and our drivers attend recovery jobs here regularly.
Many of the residential and commercial developments at Salford Quays have security-controlled access points. The dock road running around the waterfront edge passes through several security barriers, and the residential developments in Ordsall, The Crescent, and the inner Quays area have intercom-controlled gates. Our team maintains updated access contact lists for the major Quays developments and can co-ordinate access without you needing to leave your vehicle to request it. This local knowledge consistently reduces our attendance time compared to operators without Quays experience.
The Eccles Metrolink line runs through MediaCityUK and Salford Quays, and several tram crossings intersect key access roads in the area. If your vehicle breaks down near a tram crossing, our procedure is to call our depot immediately and then contact Metrolink operations. The tram service will be paused if a vehicle is on or obstructing a crossing, and our team will arrive with appropriate safety equipment. Do not attempt to push a vehicle off a crossing independently.

Not every recovery job requires the same equipment. Understanding the difference between a flatbed transporter and a standard tow truck could save you time, money, and potential damage to your vehicle.
Manchester city centre has some of the most complex towing and recovery challenges in the North West — bus gates, tram tracks, NCP car parks, restricted zones, and 24-hour traffic. Here is what every driver needs to know.
