Some vehicles should never be towed on a wheel-lift — and at Greater Tow Services, we know the difference. Luxury cars, electric vehicles, classic cars, low-clearance sports cars, and any non-running vehicle that cannot safely roll on three wheels all require flatbed transportation. Our flatbed fleet includes both open and enclosed transporters, available 24 hours a day from our five Greater Manchester depots.
Flatbed transport is not just for breakdowns. We handle a wide range of planned and emergency transport needs: auction purchases and sales across the North West, dealership deliveries, track-day car movements, estate vehicle transfers, insurance write-off transport, and long-distance deliveries throughout the UK. Every movement is carried out by trained operators using non-scratch loading equipment and professional tie-down systems.
For electric vehicles specifically, flatbed transport is not optional — it is essential. Towing an EV with wheels on the ground risks motor damage and battery management system faults on most platforms. Our operators are trained on EV-specific loading and securing requirements for all major platforms including Tesla, Nissan Leaf, BMW i-Series, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq, and the Volkswagen ID range.
Open flatbeds for standard transport. Enclosed transporters available for maximum protection of high-value and show vehicles.
Non-conductive securing straps and EV-trained operators for all electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Flatbed-only, no wheel-lift ever.
Soft-tie systems, aluminium loading ramps, and non-scratch deck mats for classic, concours, and prestige vehicles.
Extended low-angle ramps for ground-hugging sports cars including McLaren, Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, and aftermarket lowered vehicles.
Track-ready vehicle transport to and from Oulton Park, Anglesey, Donington Park, and other North West and national venues.
Long-distance fixed-price transport across the UK. Quote provided upfront before any journey begins.
Everything you need to know before you call.
Most electric vehicles use regenerative braking through the drive wheels. If the drive wheels rotate while the motor is passive — as in a wheel-lift tow — the motor can act as a generator, potentially causing overcharge conditions in the battery management system and motor damage. Most EV manufacturers explicitly state in their handbooks that flat-towing with wheels on the ground is prohibited. We use flatbed transport for all EVs, no exceptions.
Yes. Our flatbed operators are experienced in handling concours-condition, recently restored, and high-value classic cars. We use aluminium loading ramps, non-scratch deck mats, and soft-tie systems that secure the vehicle by the chassis rather than across paint or bodywork. Enclosed transporter options are available for maximum protection.
Yes. We provide UK-wide flatbed transport from our Greater Manchester base. We quote a fixed price for long-distance journeys before the vehicle is loaded — no surprises. Common destinations include auction houses in the South East, specialist restorers in the Midlands, and track venues across the country.
Yes. Our extended low-angle aluminium ramps allow safe loading of vehicles with ground clearances as low as 80mm. We regularly transport McLarens, Ferraris, aftermarket-lowered JDM imports, and purpose-built track cars without the scraping or wedging that conventional ramps cause.
Yes. We handle regular transport contracts for local dealerships and private buyers attending auction houses. Whether you have bought a vehicle at BCA Manchester or Manheim Leeds and need it delivered to your door, or you need a part-exchange collected from a customer, we can arrange collection and delivery to suit your schedule.
